Let there be light....

Next week Spectrum Art & Jewelry will have a special upgrade. Alabama artist, Susan Knecht is coming up from Huntsville to install one of her exquisite, hand crafted glass chandeliers in the gallery. We are so excited, we may have to repaint the front room to match!

Each of her fantasy light fixtures in the "South Pacific" series take about four weeks to build. She creates all the elements herself in hot glass and then assembles the finished creation. No two are ever the same. Ours will be in vivid hues of lime and turquoise and measure approximately 31" H x 28" W and weigh approximately 25 pounds.

Susan and her assistant are personally delivering the piece next Thursday, May 7th and installing it in the front room of the gallery. She plans to stay over for our monthly Open House & Wine Tasting, so she can meet our many friends and clients and talk about her work. She will also be bringing a collection of her wonderful, whimsical glass vases and sculptures.

Don't miss this chance to meet the artist and learn about her unique vision, combining classical glass technique with contemporary flair. She is seeking commissions for her light sculptures and has a wide variety of wonderful colors available.

Nancy and Bebe visit Charleston, SC

Had a wonderful weekend attending a painting workshop in Charleston, SC with instructor, Karen Hagan. Bebe caused a great deal of excitement. The gallery has never looked so wonderful! Though the past few weeks have been filled with rain, the sun is shining and the flowers are in FULL BLOOM here at Spectrum Art & Jewelry!

Beautiful, bright, and bold floral paintings cover the walls! Nancy Noel May has brought in the most vibrant sunflower still life and Ann Hair has a large sized tulip covered canvas that illuminates the tangerine colored gallery wall. Kristin Gibson has brought in several floral still lifes created in a loose, impressionistic style.

Kathy Bransfield, an Ohio based jewelry designer, has developed a line of jewelry that has quotes from Gandhi, Thoreau, and simple words such as 'Dream', 'Love', and 'Peace'. These pieces are extremely popular with teens and young adults. The necklaces are very reasonably priced and made of sterling silver and gold vermeil. ViViD wins an Award!

Gallery Owner, Star Sosa and Steve Bon, owner of Bon’s Eye Marketing, a Wilmington-based firm, created ViViD, a magazine publication. which features stories focusing on an art collector's home, spotlight on one of our gallery artists, new arrivals and more! Bon's Eye recently won a BOOM! design award from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Charlotte / Raleigh chapters.

Out of more than 500 entries, Bon’s Eye represented one of 96 winners. As a result, ViViD will be displayed in the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte during a celebratory gala on April 4. The winning piece also will be part of a travelling exhibit this spring, with stops scheduled in Charlotte and Raleigh.
