What is Argentium Silver?

Argentium Silver was invented by Peter Johns at England's Middlesex University in the early 1990's, and is the name of a silver alloy that comes from the Argentium Silver Company. It is only manufactured by this company. The silver contains germanium, which protects the Argentium silver from tarnishing and makes this particular sterling silver durable and problem-free.

What is germanium?
Germanium is a grey/white metalloid (having both metallic and non-metallic properties). It is a semi-precious, conductive material. The pure element is brittle, with a crystalline structure.

Sterling silver is softer, tarnishes, and must be polished regularly. The .925 markings mean that the alloy mix is made up of .925% sterling and the rest, copper. Argentium Silver contains sterling silver and germanium. It is harder, allowing for daily use and does not tarnish. At only $1 more an ounce, it is definitely worth it's weight!
